Critics say restricting social media app risks harming communications between state, military units and public
A Russian crackdown on the Telegram social media app risks damaging its own army and soldiers, pro-war bloggers have warned, as the platform’s founder refused to bend to pressure from Moscow.
Russia’s communications watchdog said on Wednesday that the app – used by more than 60 million Russians each day – would begin slowing nationwide, accusing it of failing to address earlier regulatory violations.

Heineken to cut 6,000 jobs as people drink less beer
Dutch brewer lowers forecasts for 2026 profit growth as cost of living and consumer health concerns reduce sales
Heineken is to cut up to 6,000 jobs globally over the next two years – close to 7% of its workforce – as the Dutch brewer struggles with falling demand for beer.
The company, which makes Heineken, Amstel and Tiger, said the cuts would come from brewing and white-collar roles among its 87,000-strong global workforce as it faced “challenging market conditions”.

Yossi Mekelberg warns Israel's current measures intended to 'kill' peace and a two-state solution
Mark Owen is pleased to welcome Yossi Mekelberg, Senior Consulting Fellow for the MENA Programme at Chatham House. The “truce” in Gaza reads more like a reduction in intensity, while the conditions of civilian life remain precarious: Ongoing military operations, persistent hunger, inadequate shelter. He sees the humanitarian picture as a collective failure of governance and international mobilisation. All-out bans on dozens of key humanitarian providers, including UNRWA, translate directly into the daily suffering of ordinary people, especially children.

China is leading in holistic AI development. Can the US catch up?
After a series of roller-coaster rides in financial markets, serious concerns remain about the long-term profitability of major artificial intelligence (AI) companies that mostly rely on circular financing – investing in each other to prop up demand. This volatility is worrisome when many Americans’ retirement pensions are closely tied to AI stocks, which have contributed to 80 per cent of the US stock market’s rise and 40 per cent of US GDP growth last year. Amid fears of a bubble, polls...
