Díaz-Canel criticou um relatório recente do Departamento de Estado dos EUA, que acusou Cuba de se infiltrar no governo norte-americano e de apoiar uma “onda sem precedentes de terrorismo de esquerda em solo americano”. O governo Trump intensificou seus ataques a grupos de esquerda dentro dos Estados Unidos. Agora no g1 “Ao acusar Cuba, eles não estão apenas procurando um bode expiatório, um agente externo. Estão procurando alguém para culpar pelos protestos dos setores mais afetados por uma economia que torna os ricos mais ricos e os pobres mais pobres”, disse Díaz-Canel. “Eles estão procurando uma nova desculpa para sustentar seu genocídio político contra Cuba.”, completa. O discurso de Díaz-Canel, proferido ao amanhecer, fez parte das comemorações do governo para marcar o 73º aniversário da primeira ofensiva das guerrilhas de Fidel Castro contra o exército do líder Fulgencio Batista, apoiado pelos EUA, em 1953, dando início a uma rebelião que derrubou Batista mais de cinco anos depois. Feriado mais importante do calendário cubano, o evento deste domingo também contou com apresentações artísticas diante de milhares de apoiadores do governo. A crise econômica sem precedentes na ilha levou várias empresas internacionais, especialmente nos setores de turismo e financeiro, a encerrarem operações em Cuba. Além dos apagões rotativos, o esgotamento do estoque de combustível provocou múltiplas falhas na rede elétrica em nível nacional. O transporte público do país também ficou paralisado e o ano letivo foi encurtado por falta de combustível. Washington culpa o governo cubano pela má gestão econômica e pela falta de investimento.
